God So Loved...
'Tis the season again...the season of family & friends, turkeys & trimmings, snowflakes & secret wishes. The very reason for all these holidays we celebrate is wrapped up in God's love. At Thanksgiving we express our gratitude for Divine provision in our lives. Christmas brings joy to the world as we understand God loved us so much He gave His own life for us. Then a new year rolls around and we are reminded that in His goodness towards us He makes all things new. Jesus isn't just the reason for the season. He's the reason for everything. Period. God so loved us that He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus, in the flesh to remove all that we were and make us into all that He is. It's not enough to say that without Him there'd be no Christmas...that's obvious. Truth is, without God's love there'd be nothing. It was His love for us that caused Him to create us in His own image. It was His love for us that had a plan for redemption even BEFORE there was a need for it! It was His love for us that caused the Son to finish on earth what had already been established in the heavens (He is the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world - Rev. 13:8).
That's why as we celebrate God's love, especially this time of year, you are compelled to give. The world system may have commercialized the season but the truth remains that the Spirit of God in you causes you to love like HE does...and give. So as you find yourself in the midst of the hustle & bustle of the coming weeks, don't focus on getting the best buy or cooking the best meal. Instead, focus on giving the best gift, just like God gave - the gift of yourself, of your love. It may take on many different forms...the donation of a new coat, a meal for your homebound neighbor, an afternoon making cookies with your children, a cup of hot cocoa shared with your spouse after the kids are in bed, etc. That's what your family needs, that's what your co-workers need, that's what your neighbors need...and that's just how God made us to be.
HEAVEN DANCES IN YOUR EYES Recent happenings have stirred my heart toward the preciousness of the gifts God gives us in the form of children. The Word of God tells us that out of His pleasure He forms each one of them full of purpose and potential. This song was birthed a verse at a time after each of my children was born. Everytime I look at them I see the pure hope and joy of heaven dancing in their eyes...
As I hold your tiny hand with one finger I know the plans the Lord holds for you are for good As you drift off to sleep,your smile lingers I know that it's just a reflection of His joy He has given us this moment To hold you in our arms As you grow in grace and truth We will keep you in our hearts
